Kristin Ellison
I create abstract and graphic acrylic paintings as well as assemblages incorporating found objects. We’re all products of our history. We each have layers of experiences that overlay one another altering the previous and the next to come. My work plays with this notion. Each painting may have as many as 12 complete layers, some vastly different from one another. As each layer is added, the edges abutting the previous create intersections or conversations. How one color meets another or how textures overlap is where I find intrigue.
Like these paintings, elements in our lives come and go and some have a profound impact on who we become. Similarly, some are introduced and it’s immediately apparent that they don’t compliment the current composition. I try to remember this when interacting with others, we are all doing our best but some of our layers have deep effects, and these are often not of our choosing.
